Nokia has acquired the technology assets of ICT company Rapid, including its popular API hub and R&D unit, to enhance its API ecosystem and monetise network assets. The deal integrates Rapid’s API hub with Nokia’s Network as a Code platform, which has gained 27 global partners since its September 2023 launch, including operator groups BT, Orange, Telefónica and Telecom Argentina. Nokia will use Rapid’s API technology to seamlessly integrate operator networks, actively control API usage and exposure, enhance API lifecycle management and collaborate with global developers based on its public API marketplace.
The acquisition of Rapid’s technology assets by Nokia underscores the critical role of APIs in the telecoms landscape, particularly in the context of new offerings and 5G monetisation.
